Midweek Mention... Muriel's Wedding

I've avoided this movie like the goddam plague. But, Dan has asked us to talk about it for your listening pleasure so I stuck it on one evening. Turns out you can be wrong about a movie from time to time, because we found a movie that we all seemed to get on with!

Midweek Mention... Bloodsport

Well we haven't ever covered a kung fu movie. This seems like as good a time as ever. We watched Bloodsport. There's lots to love about this movie. It's a true story, JCVD does the splits a lot. The child actors are fantastic. And mainly the fighting is really cool! Have we found a movie that we all agree on?

Midweek Mention... Howard the Duck

Our Midweek Mention begins our week long delve into the world of Marvel movies. Egged on by Sidey's unrelenting claims that Howard the Duck is the best Marvel movie, Reegs picked this classic tale of girl meets duck. There are many strange moments in this PG rated film. They include but are not limited to: duck wanking, potential rape, Dark Overlord transmogrification and flying a microlite. To summarise, this movie is fucking rad.

Midweek Mention... Smokey and the Bandit

"We've got a long way to go and a short time to get there. I'm east bound, just watch ol' "Bandit" run." You must remember this one, surely? The whole movie is essentially a car chase from start to finish. It's 1977 and The Bandit (Burt Reynolds) accepts a bet from Big Enos Burdette and his son Little Enos who say he can't go to Texarkana, Texas and back to Atlanta, Georgia in a big rig with 400 smuggled cases of some of America's worst beer, Coors, in under 28 hours. Reynold's is 70's coolness ...

Midweek Mention... Mortal Kombat

If you're not familiar with the rules of Mortal Kombat, allow me to explain it to you. It's a form of kombat (or martial arts kompetition) between fighters from different realms. For some reason our realm - including Earth which is a place I've become very attached to over the years - is on the brink of losing 10 konfrontations in a row which would be very bad so a team of kombatatants assemble themselves to kome to blows with their kompetitors, which include cyborgs, ninja's with freeze attacks...

Midweek Mention...Mean Girls

Imagine you've been asked to think of the most appropriate film for a group of 40 something dads. Did you think of Mean Girls? Probably not, and yet here we are. Reegs was very keen that we all watched this one, so grab some snacks and the beverage of your choice and lets see what fascinating insights are in store in our Midweek Movie Mention.... Next week we have a listener suggestion submitted on Twitter. Feel free to suggest any movies you feel would benefit from our critical reappraisal. We ...

Midweek Mention...Dragnet

A dragnet is any system of coordinated measures for apprehending criminals or suspects; including road barricades and traffic stops, widespread DNA tests, and general increased police alertness. Since the 1950s, such "dragnets" have generally been held to be unconstitutional as unreasonable search and seizure actions. It's also the name of a 1987 buddy cop movie starring Dan Aykroyd, Tom Hanks and the late great Christopher Plummer. We're talking about the latter this week.

Midweek Mention... Uncle Buck

Join the Dads as they take a trip back to 1989. Its yet another seminal 80s "classic" comedy that Sidey never bothered to see. What's his take on, not only the movie, but the work of its star, Mr John Candy? Join the debate online on twitter @dadsfilm, or stop by our website baddafsfilm.com That's all for now, until next time, we remain... Bad Dads

Midweek Mention... Twins

Bacon and eggs, peaches and cream, bread and butter, gimp masks and Howie. Some things are just better together. For that very reason we re-watched the 1988 Arnie comedy classic Twins. Sidey was popping his cherry with this one, so his take on the movie will be nostalgia free. Hands up who wants us to complete the Arnie & Ivan Reitman trilogy? Just say the word! We're desperate for human contact! So come join us on Twitter - @dads_film - on Facebook or via email to baddadsjsy@gmail.com. Until ne...

Midweek Mention... Junior

In a single decade between 1984 and 1994 Arnold Schwarzenegger had a run of box office success that is hard to compete with. Starring in, amongst others, The Terminator (1984), Commando (1985), Predator (1987), The Running Man (1987), Twins (1988), Total Recall (1990) Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991), Last Action Hero (1993) and True Lies (1994), the Austrian oak typically graced our screens as a lantern jawed behemoth who repeatedly saves the world. He also starred in 1994's deeply disturbing...

Midweek Mention... Moneyball

Sidey's former life as a data analyst is probably one of the reasons why he loves this movie about baseball. Is there any other reason? On paper a film about a sport he doesn't understand, based on granular baseball data analysis doesn't sound like something we'd line up to see. But here we are, five or six viewings to the good. What other factors have made this such a repeat viewing favourite? The Bad Dads convened a (virtual) get together to find out why this is such a hit! Also, stay tuned t...

Green Book & Ben and Hairy

Time for a trip to the Deep South for an Oscar winning racial drama. Did this really win Best Picture? None of us can remember that at all?! Anyway, hats off to Viggo Mortensen for representing the dad bod! Small mercies this week as we watched Ben & Hairy. With episodes clocking in at only 3 minutes that a sure fire win for the Bad Dads. Dan reveals his fury at the worst ever movie ending during this week's top five discussion, but which film had his losing his cool? Find out and help us comple...

The Maltese Falcon & Henry Danger

The Bad Dads take a trip through time to review the 1941 classic, The Maltese Falcon. Only narrowly outside our remit of reviewing films released since we became dads in 2013.... Before we talk about Bogart et al, we wax lyrical about the top 5 sports movies. You know, because we're so athletic! Kids entertainment this week was in the form of Henry Danger. This one certainly evoked some strong feelings from the Dads, but was it a good feeling or not?? Finally we wrap things up with a heated disc...

Okja & Barbie:Life In The Dreamhouse

No plastic dolls or giant mutant super pigs were harmed in the making of this episode! This week sees the Bad Dads in contemplative mood as we take on some heavier material with subjects such as corporate responsibility, veganism, battery farming, consumerism and materialism all discussed during our reviews of 2020 Best Picture winner Bong Joon Ho's OKJA and Netflix's BARBIE: LIFE IN THE DREAMHOUSE. We also attempt to list our top 5 Directors Debut's, thankfully Michael Bay's Bad Boys doesn't ev...

Swiss Army Man & Kipo and the Age of the Wonderbeasts

This week we moved the discussion to Dan's Man Cave. And we turned on all the mics. It was only a matter of time - Top Five Sex Scenes! It gets weird. Despite Dan's hatred of Daniel Radcliffe we watched Swiss Army Man. Could the Harry Potter star's portrayal of a corpse keep Dan entertained? We watched some new Netflix animation in Kipo and the Age of the Wonderbeasts, but was it any good?! We also discuss the merits of the cinema as a first date option. Naturally we had to debate the least appr...

Magic Mike & Picard

Time for the Bad Dads to get in touch with their feminine side. Come join us for our strangest top 5 yet. Then it's time to discuss naked men dance on stage. Dubious kids TV choice as we enjoyed the season premiere of Picard. At least one of our children watched it, so therefor it qualifies! Finally it was another trip to the Confession Booth, and this time we had the most shocking revelation to date!

La La Land & Blippi

Time for something a little more musical. We kick off this week with a discussion about the best movie soundtracks. The musical theme continues with a Dad's discussion about the awards behemoth La La Land. Anonymous Meeg was especially excited for this one... Then we watch the children's delight that is Blippi. What an experience that was. Get your dancing shoes on and have a listen.

Say the name, win the prize! This week it's top five bad dads time! We put our heads together to discuss the 2019 Hellboy reboot. Was it worth it? Listener suggested content followed as we watched Apple and Onion. Could it be better than Spirit? Surely not.... Then Meeg goes full troll as we chat about films that shouldn't have had a sequel. Star Wars Special

The Bad Dads reconvened after Christmas to visit a galaxy far, far away... Like the rest of the world we've been to see The Rise of Skywalker. Listen in to see if we liked it. Unlike the rest of the world we watched Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure. Find out how the magic of Star Wars looks on screen when no one cares... Sidey then provides a dissertation on why Star Wars has been bad for cinema. See if he can dodge the punches aimed from the other Bad Dads. Finally, we running a real live ...
