Interview with Jamie Chambers

Every now and then we are fortunate to have a guest on the show. It must be nice for you all to hear from people who actually know what they're talking about! We opened our virtual doors for a visit from the very excellent Jamie Chambers. Ten years ago Jamie had an epiphany and decided to try his luck at making it in the movie business. Join us for stories about Stormtrooper costumes, Red Dwarf after parties and a visit from what sounds like Gary Oldman from True Romance! If you have some mov...

Midweek Mention... Mortal Kombat

If you're not familiar with the rules of Mortal Kombat, allow me to explain it to you. It's a form of kombat (or martial arts kompetition) between fighters from different realms. For some reason our realm - including Earth which is a place I've become very attached to over the years - is on the brink of losing 10 konfrontations in a row which would be very bad so a team of kombatatants assemble themselves to kome to blows with their kompetitors, which include cyborgs, ninja's with freeze attacks...

Midweek Mention...Dragnet

A dragnet is any system of coordinated measures for apprehending criminals or suspects; including road barricades and traffic stops, widespread DNA tests, and general increased police alertness. Since the 1950s, such "dragnets" have generally been held to be unconstitutional as unreasonable search and seizure actions. It's also the name of a 1987 buddy cop movie starring Dan Aykroyd, Tom Hanks and the late great Christopher Plummer. We're talking about the latter this week.

Tenet & Raising Dion

Midweek Mention... Twins

Bacon and eggs, peaches and cream, bread and butter, gimp masks and Howie. Some things are just better together. For that very reason we re-watched the 1988 Arnie comedy classic Twins. We're desperate for human contact! So come join us on Twitter - @dads_film - on Facebook or via email to baddadsjsy@gmail.com. Unti...

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri & We Can Be Heroes

From the stunningly detailed rendering of Avatar's Pandora through to the digital erasure of Arnie Hammer's testicles in Call Me By Your Name, the special and visual effects people have been bringing movie magic into the film making process for almost as long as the medium itself has existed. You probably won't find anything as magnificent as these examples in this weeks Top 5 Worst Special Effects. This weeks main feature is a darkly comic study of grief, loss and anger in writer/producer/dire...

Midweek Mention... The Bourne Identity

With our finger firmly on the pulse we take a trip back to 2002 for The Bourne Identity. The movie is great. We love it so much that we veer off topic and discuss watches. Midweek Mention.... Grosse Pointe Blank

Time to squeeze in one final episode for 2020. This midweek mention is all about Sidey waxing lyrical about one of his favourite movies, Grosse Pointe Blank. So tune and and remind yourself why this is such a great movie. Or of you've not seen it yet, please go watch it, then listen to us chat about it! We love in...

Midweek Mention... Total Recall Vs Total Recall

Have you ever wondered which is the superior version of the movie Total Recall? Perhaps you find Arnold Schwarzenegger's performance in the 1990 version too understated. Maybe you felt that taking all the mutants and Mars setting gave the 2012 version a more grounded and realistic appeal... I think we all know which is the better move, but why not listen in to find out what we thought?! We love interacting with our listeners, so please get in touch with us - @dads_film, on Facebook or via emai...

1917 & The Hollow

As an audience we are predisposed to expect our lead character will survive in the end, no matter how trying their circumstances may be so it's shocking when we witness the death of the main character in a movie. Our Top 5 discusses those films which surprised us by killing off their protagonists - needless to say spoilers follow! This weeks film review is Sam Mendes's 2019 multiple award winner 1917. Partially inspired by stories told to the director by his grandfather, the film follows two yo...

Forgotten Gem...The Thomas Crown Affair

No one asked us for additional material, but we did it anyway! We've started looking back at some films that have fallen though the cracks. Maybe you missed them the first time round. Perhaps they have improved with age. Or perhaps you simply forgot all about them. We're calling these our Forgotten Gems... First up for a critical reappraisal is the 1999 remake of The Thomas Crown Affair. Sidey is convinced this is an under appreciated classic. Is he correct? Yes. Tune in and let us know of ...

Terminator: Dark Fate & Free Rein

Huge budgets and A-list actors are just two of the things you'd be unlikely to find in Direct to Video (DTV) movies, and that's exactly the case in this weeks top 5 about movies released straight to video or streaming services. Perhaps you'll find out about some unknown classic in a subject close to Reegs's heart, or maybe more likely you'll find yourself hearing about the 3rd, 4th, 5th or later sequels to movies that no one cared that much about to begin with. But with talented directors like J...

Okja & Barbie:Life In The Dreamhouse

No plastic dolls or giant mutant super pigs were harmed in the making of this episode!
