Halls & Fackham Hall
This week on Bad Dads Film Review, Sidey, Dan, Reegs and Cris wrap up Hall Week with Fackham Hall, the 2025 period-drama parody written by Jimmy Carr, with Thomasin McKenzie, Ben Radcliffe, Damian Lewis and Tom Felton in the cast.
The episode opens with some good news, as the show has passed 100,000 downloads, and a round of catching up that takes in a walking football top-of-the-table clash against last season's champions, Sidey's trip to see Professor Brian Cox at the O2 Arena, and what everyone has been watching, including Cellular, Shantaram, Carrie and Nathan Fielder.
Then it is on to the top five halls, where the dads take in Hall and Oates, the Louvre and the Musee d'Orsay, Berghain, the Royal Albert Hall, Anthony Michael Hall, the halls of mirrors in Enter the Dragon and John Wick, the Darth Vader hallway from Rogue One, three City Halls and the Overlook Hotel from The Shining, with Deck the Halls as Sidey's nomination.
Then comes the film. Sidey's heart sank when he saw Jimmy Carr's name on the screenplay, Dan's daughter gave up after three minutes, and Reegs sums it up as Downton Abbey meets Naked Gun. The dads talk through the missing heir, the jilted wedding, the murder that is accidentally stabbed, shot, poisoned and strangled all at once, Jimmy Carr's vicar with the misplaced punctuation, John Thomson as Bill Bo Baggins and a Tolkien cameo, and why it is not as good as the new Naked Gun.
The verdicts are a surprise. Sidey says it was more of a recommend than he expected, Reegs says it won him over as it went on, and Dan gives it a medium to strong recommend, more on the medium. Cris did not watch it and says it sounds like a terrible thing.
The Bad Dads verdict is a medium recommend, with a hundred thousand reasons to celebrate.
We love to hear from our listeners! By which I mean we tolerate it. If it hasn't been completely destroyed yet you can usually find us on twitter @dads_film, on Facebook Bad Dads Film Review, on email at baddadsjsy@gmail.com or on our website baddadsfilm.com.

Any food allergies yourself, Chris?
SPEAKER_00No, zero. I don't have any allergies to anything. I hope, I wish I was allergic to stupid people. You eat them? What stupid people? No, but I just wish I was allergic to the people.
SPEAKER_01My uh daughter and wife have developed a sort of tomato allergy.
SPEAKER_00Oh I've heard that one before. Laura, they used to work at a cafe. Never used to have them until about a couple years ago.
SPEAKER_01Now they're tomorrow's goal fucking like all blistered.
SPEAKER_00She was the same. She said in her childhood she never had it, and now as a 30-year-old woman, she So trying to make a saucer without tomatoes in it's really fucking difficult.
SPEAKER_02Does that rule out like spaghetti bolognese and uh like tinned dropped tomatoes and just about get it, but no nothing fresh.
SPEAKER_01Is it because of the seeds? No, I don't know. It's just they're like ketchup? No.
SPEAKER_04No? Okay.
SPEAKER_01Um So it's the acidity. I think it's the acidity, yeah. Anyway, losers. Acid. Yeah, that's a shame because I love tomatoes. So do I. And it's the like the most success we have a growing stuff at home is tomatoes.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah. We had a big lasagna tonight, which was filled with many juicy tomatoes left over from the the last vestiges on them. Yeah, yeah, but that's why night fertiliser. The acid maybe that's why That was the idea they're sourced.
SPEAKER_05Maybe that's why they're here we go.
SPEAKER_04Um yeah, I've I've enjoyed a couple of good meals over the last week. The park house was a particular highlight. Nice Thai house. I'm the same thing whenever I go into the yeah, that park house Thai restaurant along Columbia. Highly recommended.
SPEAKER_01We're going there in a couple of weeks actually, midweek special.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Well, we've got to organise a special meal for ourselves to celebrate as well.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah. Yes. Yeah. I I said that. Arbitrary number celebration. Yeah. Way. Way. We've done a hundred thousand.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02It's good though.
SPEAKER_04A hundred thousand down.
SPEAKER_02So I would feel something, but I don't. So just a nice round number, innit? Is that not a bit of a tingle in your feet or something? No, that's just n ticking. Normal ticking. Okay.
SPEAKER_01But it is good. Just milestone.
SPEAKER_00Hundred thousand downloads. It means a thousand a hundred thousand times, even if it's just us that listen to the same thing over and over again. No, I don't do that anymore. Which yeah, I listened to it once, I don't listen to it. People do like tune in and listen to it. Yeah. So it's good. So that's not too bad. Thank you, I would say. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Actually, if you listened to the Green Room episode on Sunday the whatever that was, the twenty fifth. Yeah, you were our hundred thousandth listener. Okay, nice. I don't know. That's the Green Room. I can't remember what the top five was, but the movie was Green Room. That was quite a good one as well. The Jeremy Solnier. Yeah, we were like really surprised that it was the Oscar winner. The Nazi biker gang thing, remember that? With Anton Yelchin? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that one I was thinking, oh, I was getting confused at Green Book.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah, I thought that. I was like, Green Book or Green Book. Okay, yeah, yeah, anyway. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. Nice. Should we have a walking football update? Well, that's why we're here. We had uh top of the table clash yesterday. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Oh, it was a top of the table. I didn't realise that.
SPEAKER_01They're last season's champions, they beat us in the playoff for the title last year. Well, they beat us in the penalty shootout, they didn't beat us in the game.
SPEAKER_02And going into this game, you were top of the level.
SPEAKER_01We were we'd won all of our games and they had been beaten by Trinity. So we went into the game pretty confident, and their goalkeeper wasn't there, so they didn't have a regular goalkeeper.
SPEAKER_00He's normally quite good, as well as it's a lot.
SPEAKER_01He's good. He's good. He's not a good job, but he's good. Yeah. And we started slow and we ended up just like it the game was even, and they got a sort of dubious free kick, which they scored from, which was irritating. They're not very good at defending free kicks, we've decided. Yeah, I said beasts are Achilles heel. We've got a bit of a bad. I don't know why we didn't just put three in the wall. Yeah. No, that'd be it. So that happened. And then we went into half time, one or down, got a bit of pep talk, and went out. Pretty much scored immediately. Yeah. Shep Shep actually came to me as we decide, he's like, I'm I feel really ill.
SPEAKER_04When did he say he wasn't well?
SPEAKER_01Literally as a kicking off. That's the first time he said to me. He said, mate, I've got five minutes in me, then I've got to I've got to come off. Because he was and he then he did look rough. But he snatched the ball away for someone, did a quick shuffle, squared it to Russ, who banged the first time short. Go on. One all. And they they were already on three runs, actually. They'd got to three in the first half, and they referenced erratic, but it was giving him really, I thought, quite harsh run.
SPEAKER_04Well sometimes he wouldn't get him for running, and sometimes it was quite harsh for for running. But they ended up being constantly making up his penalty.
SPEAKER_01But it's bad for both teams, to be honest.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, there was a penalty.
SPEAKER_01So we got it, we got it with about ten to go, which Danny scores. So on Facebook, if anyone wants to tune in to that. Oh depends on Facebook. It's a good pen, actually. And then we just kind of we didn't manage the game very well, and we were under the kosh a bit. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Then they even went down the four or five. They lost a player and they tumbled me over, and I went down like any old man you might have seen attacked in the street or something. I went down like that. Well, you remember that referee who got knocked over by the five. Yeah, got to gang anyway. It was kind of like stumbled down. But I wasn't quite as hard as the ref and I didn't get up as quick. And I were down for a good minute or two. They lost a player for that for four minutes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, which we didn't capitalise.
SPEAKER_04And then they just wouldn't let us have the ball after that. They kept the ball, didn't they?
SPEAKER_01They kept it so well. And then got to they they'd hit the post, I think, and then they did another few shots, another free kick that just went wide, and we were just hanging on, and then I could hear Hesi shouting, and there was a guy on marks, but Hesi was picking up someone, I was picking up someone, and someone didn't come back, and they squared the ball out to seven minutes. It was a good finish, but fucking stopped one minute ago. So we were sort of left the pitch feeling very disgruntled. It's a better result for you than it is for them. It was a fair result to me. We didn't, yeah, you know, you couldn't really say we deserve to win, but when you're winning with a minute to go, you still get fucking you feel like you're throwing it away, but on but still be the ones who are deep-gutted not to beat you. Top, and if we can beat Cimbrellars, who are the other unbeaten team, if we could beat them and we're still in pole position.
SPEAKER_04Which is our next game in a couple of weeks' time, so we will be primed and ready for it. Well, you also have time to recover. And yeah, my my bruises and swelling.
SPEAKER_01So that's the tale of that. I've been away this week, so I just watched the movie. You went to see I went to see Professor Brian Cox at the O2 Arena.
SPEAKER_04What was he like? Really good. Well, and what did he he kind of did he go out to D-Ream?
SPEAKER_01Did some D-Ream. Well, no, he didn't do D-Ream, actually. But what he did do was effectively a science lecture. It was a world record breaking because it was the m highest attended science lesson stroke lecture, whatever, 16,800 people there. Really good. It was good numbers. Yeah, it was good. And one of the things he was talking about was wavelengths and whatever, so he got out a keyboard, you know, like the MOOC or something. Yeah, the like guitar shapes thing. And he was just demonstrating, you know, the sound and the wavelength thing pattern. And then he's like, Some of you may know. I used to be in a band when I was at university, and I was like, yeah. And he goes, and it's always been my dream to play, you know, in a band, play music on a big in a big venue like this. So he'd like to and he goes, When I was in D Ream, we toured with Europe. Do you remember what song they did? The final case. Oh, awesome. Which was like the funniest bit because the rest of it was like pre-highcore science stuff. Yeah. But done in a kind of way that you could try and follow along some of it.
SPEAKER_02But if he lost the thread, did you like have to tune out for a minute before you could go to the room?
SPEAKER_01No, no, I think like that's his gift, right? Is he really good at keeping you engaged and you know, and you're there specifically to watch so you do kind of like concentrate. Some of the stuff so it starts off about a guy called Kepler and and then it was about the symmetry of uh all snowflakes have six points, even though they're all different than we all have six points. Yeah. And the Kepler belt. And then about Planck's constant, and and but this guy just went for a walk one day and just by chance thought of this Planck's Constant thing, which as far as we know is still true. Yeah. But he just guessed it. How do how can you do that? Yeah. I don't know. Stuff that's what really blows my mind. But yeah, so it was it was you know, is it like a dig?
SPEAKER_02Do you do you like did you get a beer and can you buy a t-shirt?
SPEAKER_01We were in we so we had some fancy seats, so that we had a like our own service. They kept bringing beers over. So you could hurt abuse at the disabled people. Yeah, I did have to tell some disabled people to get out of my way, yeah. I was more bright about it.
SPEAKER_04That wavelength's wrong or no, it was sort of like it was good.
SPEAKER_01There were you could tell that there were some people that had brought their kids who were really young, and we did see a few leave because it was a bit like it must bring a pfft, like yeah, way over their head. But no, something a bit different. It was good for fantastic. Also, we stayed at Canary Wharf, Strong Recommend. Yeah. The new sort of residential development they've done there because it's like one tube stop away from the O2. Oh nice, okay.
SPEAKER_00So you're also close to London like Central London. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Then you just go Elizabeth Lyon straight into Central London. London.
SPEAKER_01Strong recommend. Nice. Anyone else watch anything good?
SPEAKER_04I did watch actually Cellular. Oh, I've seen that. It's with Ben Affleck, no, no, Chris Evans. Okay. Did we do it for the pod? And not when I'd done it. It was the first time that I'd like it. I've definitely seen it. We we were sat down. Down. We were sat down in the lounge and Nellie chose it and said, right, well, let's watch this one just because I'd spent 30 minutes trying to choose something, and she got obviously uh annoyed with that. And it was Kim Bassinger is in it as well, and Jason Statham. Okay, that's that man. That's how Carl's he's the he's the baddie keeping or kidnap Kim Bassinger and Chris Evans picks up a phone, and it's like when people have just got phones and they've just got video on. Like a Nokia 32 ton or something.
SPEAKER_02Well, it was, it was like it's being treated as like this amazing piece of the phone.
SPEAKER_04Jana's got the same phone in the drawer upstairs, like the one that they had, and they were saying, Oh, you're not gonna get and she's saying that phone didn't do that.
SPEAKER_05Like that phone didn't do that.
SPEAKER_04But yeah, basically there's bad cops and corrupt cops and running around, and he's picks up this phone. She's a science teacher who's managed to work these broken wires to just collect a random number, which happens to be Chris Evans, and she says, Look, please take me to William H. Macy's in it as well. Alright. Um kind of funny looking. And um, you know, they've got to run around and save the day. It wasn't bad though. It wasn't bad at all. Yeah, it was yeah, kind of remember. Yeah, it was a it was a good pace. It it was trying to be a little bit like speed because there were times when he couldn't, you know, lose the he had to go quicker and get the signal and couldn't get the lose the signal and I had to do all these mad kind of things to keep a ch keep the phone charged and everything. Yeah. Yeah, not too bad. Have you watched anything?
SPEAKER_00I watched two more episodes of Dashantran. Oh right, yeah, yeah. I I kept I kept going. I'm not I I didn't really have time and and I was working a few evenings this week doing a bit of bar work. But it it's easy. If I don't watch the football, I'll just put that one on. It's one hour. Nice. It's it's just a bit of a breeze. There's nothing really too bad or too good in it. There's not a lot of action, but it's quite interesting. And I don't know anything about India or Indian culture or anything like that. I did notice that, except for Charlie Hunnam, who is the Shandaram. Yeah. He's the main guy, foreigner. And all like whereas local, even if they're uh actors and whatever, they all do the head thing. Right. It's quite funny. Yeah. Even when they're talking to each other, even when the there's some of them that speak English, there's some of them that speak speech. Body language of it.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, Reed has spent a lot of time in India back in the head. The head probably you're talking about how you say yes, isn't it? And no, or maybe.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Keep you guessing. Well, this is at the beginning, in the first or I think it's the first episode, second episode, when he does land in India and he meets this tour guide. The guy keeps doing that, and he said, Yes, no, maybe, blah, blah, blah. And this is what the guy says like, what is that note of the head? Are you happy? Are you sad? He's like, Well, this one means yes, this one means we're going. And it's for me as a and and even that guy is like, all right, yeah.
SPEAKER_04What's his name in it? Is it Kim or something? The what's the character's name? The act which one? Not Charlie Human's character's name.
SPEAKER_00Dale or Lynn.
SPEAKER_04Lin, Lin, that's it. Lin's is something. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Lin. They call him Lynn because apparently if you call it Linu or something, it's penis. Yeah, yeah. So they Lenga. Lingu, yeah, yeah. Something, and he gets he thinks he's like big great penis. Lingananda. And there's this girl says, No, it just means penis. He's like, oh, okay. So yeah, I watched a couple of more episodes of that. It's it's it's alright. There's a bit of the underworld, there's a bit of the it's oh it's alright. I'll it's not gonna win any Oscars, but it's it's okay.
SPEAKER_04We could have done if they'd have made it into anywhere near the the book. Because the book the book was fantastic, honestly. I I might when we when we go away, I might bring it with us and you can you can start reading it. You might get you you might enjoy the book even more. Okay. The Riggs?
SPEAKER_02I've been watching Carrie with the Wife, which is is great. Yeah, that's spooky. It's not so much spooky, but yeah, it's it's thriller kind of stuff, or is it it's got it's about a young girl who is sort of hidden away from the world and then exposed to it and ends up going to school, and she's because she's been hidden away by her mother, her her father's died in a horrible accident, and because she's been hidden away and her mother's very protective and overbearing, she doesn't know about anything, and she gets bullied at school, and she has her first period in a very vi scene she doesn't even know what it is. Like she's never yeah, in a shower she's bullied. A very visceral scene in the book. Apparently Stephen King wrote it, threw it away, and then his wife picked it up and was like, nah, you should carry on with this with it. So and then she starts getting the telekinesis and psychic abilities. So she's been brought up by a rage-filled mother and because of her period, she gets that. Well, it's kind of tied together. I mean, that's a it's sort of tied together, yeah, certainly. That as this is happening to her as she's maturing, these she's getting these powers, and then obviously, like if she became a bit unstable, terrible things could happen.
SPEAKER_01I hope nothing like that happens.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. So that's good. And I've been also getting into the work of Nathan Field here in preparation for You Can See Everything.
SPEAKER_01I've been like searching for just some way to see it. Yeah. Just so much hype.
SPEAKER_02It will come out soon enough, and I kind of know a bit about the story.
SPEAKER_01So it's the most meme photo I think I've seen in years.
SPEAKER_02That trailer was captivating, even if you knew very little about the story like I did, and now I know a bit more, so I'm I'm interested. He's he's an interesting guy. She's I find it she's kind of a fantasist who traded on sex and like a lot of other stuff.
SPEAKER_04I'm not sure what we're we're Yeah, I don't know what you're talking about.
SPEAKER_01So there was a big fraud scandal where investors got duped about that. The company was called Theranos, and it was like you could do one drop of blood and it would just diagnose like fucking everything. Promised as a miracle. It was just bullshit, right? But at one point it was worth five, the company was worth five billion or something. It was all this in reality. Yeah, yeah. She went down.
SPEAKER_02She got sentenced homes and she was a complete fantasist.
SPEAKER_01She could she got sentenced. Saralogue's sister. Yes. Right. And before she went to jail, so in between her getting sentenced and she got this guy and said, I want you to come and just film our lives. You know, you'll you can see everything, and that's the name of the thing. And it's just pretty just filled with the colour.
SPEAKER_02But what adds another layer to it is that the guy that they go for, Nathan Fielder, his his comedy is about taking like scenarios that occur in reality and then staging them. So like the boundaries between what's real and what isn't in his comedy, which is posed as a documentary but sometimes isn't through. Is not entry point. It's sort of that edge, but if you were more with Louie, you tend to think of it as mostly being real. But if you you sort of look at Nathan and you're like, how much of this is you and how much isn't, it's difficult to know. So to have these two weird people in the dynamics.
SPEAKER_01Documentary to win the Oscar.
SPEAKER_00But wait, how are these two people connected again?
SPEAKER_01He's a documentary maker and she's a to film right her family life before in the into in the bit before she goes to prison. You see her husband's dick, I know that. Right. Yeah, and it's massive. It's really like there's no need, it's just like strong recommend for that. This has now morphed into Hall Week. Yes, for some reason. And we're gonna talk about top five halls. Yeah. And then we're gonna watch Farkam Hall. Yeah. Well, I've already watched it, I'm gonna talk about it. I don't want to watch it again.
SPEAKER_04We were listening to a little bit of Hall of Notes earlier, weren't we?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, which may have been in my list.
SPEAKER_01May have been in my top five. Right, let's talk about halls then. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Well, Hall of Notes was one of my hauls because on 500 Days of Summer, which is that film.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, Joseph Gordon Levitt. But they've been in fucking millions of films. I mean, that song Man Eater, for example, would have been in countless songs, I would have thought of this.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Well, You Make My Dreams come true. Yeah, yeah. And he's he's walking through the park after he's spent the night with the girlfriend for the first time. Zoe De Chanel with the fucking empty-brim glasses, stupid bitch. And he's it's kind of a a street dance moment, isn't it?
SPEAKER_01Where there's a flash mob thing, isn't it? Yeah.
SPEAKER_04And that everybody just is in time and dancing with him, and it's I was watching that with again with my my daughter, and she just loved that kind of music.
SPEAKER_01I think it started maybe on Laugh or I can't remember what this comedy thing was. There was a when there was another it wasn't YouTube, but there was another channel, channel 101 or something. But then you can you can watch it on YouTube at this comedy series about yacht rock. All right. I fucking love it, it's brilliant. Some of the episodes you can actually you have to go into the internet archive to find them.
SPEAKER_02What who are the proponents of yacht rock? Who are the main out ballet?
SPEAKER_01No, it's Michael McDonald's and who's the guy from the Doobie Brothers, who's the one who went on and did Flashdance and oh my god, his name's gone out of my head. But they do this, it's like a 12-part, like five-minute video series, and in it you've got Hall of Notes, and they play like this sort of metal version of themselves, villains. It's honestly pretty much to watch a couple of layers.
SPEAKER_02Is it at the end of Introducing that they've got like a Kazakhstani version of I Can't Go For That?
SPEAKER_04I just can't stop thinking about what this guy's name is. And while we're we're talking about Hall of Notes, then Maneater did feature in No Hard Feelings, Jennifer Lawrence and Jay Law. Yeah, Jaylaw. And she's she plays kind of uh crazy house sitter woman who needs more money to save her house. Oh, is it that for the point? Kenny Loggins. Kenny Loggins. Well done. Yeah, and she's got a kind romance trying to suck that kid off. Yeah, she's got a romance a young lad who's she has that fight naked on the beach, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01But but but with the two of them come together, they sort of find themselves, don't they? Yeah, it's not a good thing.
SPEAKER_04And he he plays Maneater because he's great at piano, and she says, play something I'm gonna fucking freak out in this restaurant. So then he he does it in the restaurant and just plays man, and she's like, That is fucking amazing, like and you are such a cool kid, and it gives him that little bit of confidence that and the Asian girl is in the restaurant as well, isn't he?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04That's right, and he's like, No friend, and I really like her. What are you talking about? Like, but yeah, that was quite a bit. It's surprisingly good that maybe no hard feelings. There you go.
SPEAKER_00Halls, can I put like a big hole? Yeah, right. If you get every any week for putting a big hole, well no, because I didn't really understand what he he was talking about. What has Man Eater got to do with a hole? Hall and Holland Oats the band.
SPEAKER_04Hall and oats it plays the song, yeah. We're going that tenuous, so I'm sure you can have a hole. Having a hole seems like a big thing.
SPEAKER_00I've got hall ways, if that helps.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's gonna get worse, I think.
SPEAKER_00Well, look, the Apollo Gallery is part of the Louvre.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_00And um I was there recently. Were you? Mm-hmm. In the Apollo gallery or Apollo? So you know which one I mean then. Yeah. Well, it's featured in a film that we all love and cherish. Da Vinci Code. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And apparently it featured in How to Steal a Million. Okay. Right. Okay. I guess you could probably say way more than a million in the Louvre, surely. Yeah. They did? Well, they definitely did through that window, through the crane thing. Oh, yeah, of course.
SPEAKER_03Their password was like Louvre123 or something.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, exactly. It was no, it was West Ham or Lower Cup. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Lowercase. So Van Sideway team. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I've got quite a few of them here, but I'm I'm keeping them because I'm I don't have that much research done about all these museums, so I've got quite a few of them. But there's also another one in Paris which I really, really like, and at the Musee d'Orsay, it features the the former railway station, and it's that's the the museum. And uh the the big hallway in the museum with the glass roof and all that, it features in the film Hugo and a film that we all love. Oh, that's Cross City, one in it. Yeah, and Midnight in Paris. Oh yeah. I hated that. Oh the Woody Allen one. Yeah. So that's where it is, Museu d'Orsay. So two Paris venues that we all enjoy. Yeah. Well, maybe not so much these days. I wouldn't recommend going that you know it's a bit lively over there.
SPEAKER_01In the current situation.
SPEAKER_00Although you might be safe inside.
SPEAKER_01I do see another one of the of the like meme thing of there's just two people out like sitting outside a cafe having a cigar and everything around him's on fire. And it's like, yeah, it's fine. It's fine, it's fine.
SPEAKER_02Everything's fine here. Nothing to see. I'm going for Anthony Michael Hall. Yeah. From the John Hughes movies. I tend to be. Didn't we want the trench coat? He was in Sixteen Candles. He was in Breakfast Club. And most memorably for me, Weird Science, because I fucking love that movie.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, no, he was he was he was in yeah, yeah, Breakfast Clubs. Breakfast Club, yeah.
SPEAKER_02He was he just always used to play the geek. He's this kind of guy now, even if you saw him, you'd think, Are you on your way to detention? Or is your mum gonna pick you up? Like, you know, that's the kind of guy he looks like. And I really loved Weird Science. I don't know how many times I saw that. Kelly B with Chet and Kelly Brock from Guernsey. He was born Michael Anthony Thomas Charles Hall, and he switched his first and middle names because another actor named Michael Hall was already an actor. And then he had a 1999 album with his band Hall of Mirrors called Welcome to the Hall of Mirrors. Is that good? I don't know. Probably not. He'd certainly leaned into the hall aspect of his name with his band there. Clearly, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Wow. Well, one of the first things that came to mind, it takes two of the hall interpretations that I had. So a hall, a big fucking function room type hall, and hallways. Yeah. Wow. Can you guess what it is yet? No. The shining. Oh. So they've got the really famous steady cam shot of Danny on his trike and he's going around. I'm thinking about I saw a Christmas jumper of the pattern of the carpet. Yeah. And he meets the twins and everything while he's goes around shining. Yeah. And then there's various Yeah. Love in an elevator. There's also then various scenes in I'm gonna say the Is it a ballroom? I think it's a multi-purpose room, because it's a dining room that converts into a It's kind of a ballroom, I would say, almost. Yeah. And it ends with like Jack talking to the barman and then he kind of looks at the photo on the on the wall of the Is that where he writes as well? Is that No, well there's a different one where he sort of writes in the big like the foyer because he's got the big the the big staircase in front of him, hasn't he, where he chases Shelly to bell up the thing. So the first like room I was thinking of was I was calling it like a dance hall in my head. Yeah where he chats to the bar.
SPEAKER_04The Overlook Hotel. Do you have uh Dick Halloran as well? Or Hallowran Halloran. Well it's a stretch, but yeah. He's the uh the the kind of the Overlook Hotel.
SPEAKER_02He's the guy who communicates through the he tells him about the shining, isn't it? Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Is that Scat Man Cruthers? Yeah he's yeah, he he's he's yeah, I think you pronounce it Horloran. No? No, I think it's Halloran.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. It's definitely in there, it's got a bit of Hall in it.
SPEAKER_01I've got like more tenuous names than that.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, well, okay, Michael Seahall. Yeah. Yeah. He's from Dexter, isn't he? He's from Dexter. I've never watched it. I did. I watched it. This came before I think streaming came to me anyway, because somebody gave me it on a USB stick of the first series. Sounds illegal.
SPEAKER_02It came back, didn't it? Yeah, they had it was Hammer. The finale was awful.
SPEAKER_01It's like one of those really worst Friend of the Pod is was a big fan of Dexter, really, really liked it.
SPEAKER_04Hammer put me onto it. He goes, Oh, is this and I'll be able to do that. Sort of thinking until we get murdered. And um, yeah, he he plays a forensic expert who goes to inquire about the the murders that some of the time he's actually been part of. Yeah. But he's a serial killer, and as you learnt the character, he was always he was one of those he was adopted by a policeman who recognized the bigger. He was broken from the beginning, don't you? Well, no, he he well, he was broken from the beginning, but they he realised that this is just who this kid is. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So he tried to try to let him like a good shit and yeah, try to be a good serial killer, just kill the bad guys.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Like if you're gonna be a serial killer, just kill the bad guys, and so that's how he does it. And then his sister is also a cop, I think, and um they gets you know a little bit closer for comfort, and he'll drive out every now and again again and dump somebody on a boat, and he keeps a little vial of their blood all meticulous, like in his ultra clean apartment. He he won he won various awards for for playing Dexter, and he also did Six Feet Under, which I'd never seen before, but he did start getting into a few like a drama thing about a funeral dread.
SPEAKER_02Oh, it's the first season of it, it was okay. I I heard it's really good, but I didn't never never got into that.
SPEAKER_04But yeah, Michael C. Christian? Okay.
SPEAKER_00I've got a uh 2005 film called Pride and Prejudice. Yes. Not sure if anyone ever heard of it. It's based on it in that book. Um it was there's um scene where the bowl takes place at a place called Basledon Park, Berkshire, England. And it's a Georgian mansion that really exists, yes, and it's managed by the National Trust. So you can visit and it's a real thing. And if anyone remembers the ball in Pride and Prejudice, I don't really remember that much about it, but it's a real place and it's a Georgian house. The Netherfield ball, isn't it? Jane Austen. Yes, Netherfield, yes, that's the one. Charlie's Charlie Austen, who plays herself out to this. Yeah, yeah, his sister. Also, the wedding bowl scene used in the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles in Marie Antoinette. I know I've been I've gone a bit French, but I did uh mention Birch England, but that is the we spoke about the Hall of Mirrors, but that is probably one of the most famous ones, the one at the Palace of Versailles. So I'm gonna say that.
SPEAKER_02Have we done the Hall of Mirrors? Have we?
SPEAKER_00Well no, you s you talked about the Hall of Mirrors earlier with your thing. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Well, I'm gonna go for Hall of Mirrors again. Please do it. And the Dragon? Well, there's so many movies. There's the original I've found today, and I have seen this scene, it's from an awesome Wells movie. I don't know whether you've seen it, Dan, Lady from Shanghai. But I definitely remember have seen the the finale of this, which is this shootout in a hall of mirrors, and they can't they sort of see the reflection of each other and shootout and it that but then a similar thing happens again, obviously, in as you say, in Enter the Dragon, which had She Kien as Han and Bruce Lee. Bullshit, Mr. Han.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And Face Off. Who did that for the pod. That has a shootout in the mirror. Nickade. Yeah. John Travolta, this ridiculous gin. Us, if you've seen that, the Jordan Peele horror movie starts with a girl coming out, going into a uh fun house hall of mirrors thing, and actually a different girl comes out who looks identical to her. Few movies recently have had them as well. It chapter two, there's a Spider-Man scene in Homecoming, I think, that's in a Hall of Mirrors. And they're it both the John Wick movies have scenes featured in Hall of Mirrors one in the installation. Four of them. Sorry, two John Wick movies then. Two of the three, two John Wick Two and John Wick III both have scenes set in rooms with lots of mirrors. Mirrors, yeah, I remember that. That sort of stuff. So yeah. The Hall of Mirrors.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. What about Hall of Fame?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Two artists in music that I fucking don't like at all. The script featuring Will I Am have a song called Hall of Fame. That's fucking one to avoid. Terry Hall, remember him? Yeah. Specials and Funboy 3. Okay. Terry Hall. And currently, although I gave up on this, I don't know if they're still in it, but Jerry Hall was in The Celebrity Traitors, was also in Batman. Batman. Batman, yeah. Yeah. And in various not roxy music, I think Brian Ferry. Who's Jerry Hall? Model. Texan Texan model, really. Was married to Nick Jagger.
SPEAKER_04Right.
SPEAKER_01And then I think I've maybe had a thing with Brian Ferry. She was in the Love is the Drug video of Brian Ferry. And then really crowbar couple in here. Hallie Berry. Okay. Nice. Horley Berry. And Marshall Mathers. Okay, that really is also known as Eminem and has various musical numbers you might enjoy. But was also yes, and was also in Eight Mile, of course. Yeah. As Jimmy B. Rabbit Smith. Yeah. Whose mum in the film complains about her fella not going down on her to her son, which is about as grim as it fucking gets. I think I went to the cinema to see that for some reason.
SPEAKER_02Did you see his mum? See 8 Mile. I enjoyed it. Yeah, I liked it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I liked it too, yeah.
SPEAKER_04We've had a few City Halls in the in the movie world. The Joker was one of them, where they had a big Gotham City Hall scene between tense conf concentration between Arthur Fleck and Thomas Wayne.
SPEAKER_01In the Batman one with Jerry Hall, he goes to the steps of all in City Hall. He goes to the steps of City Hall and he kills the guy with a pen. Yeah. But it's a quill, isn't it? And he says that the pen is my sword.
SPEAKER_02Pen is my sword. And then he pulls is that when he pulls that ridiculous gun out of his pocket, he shoots down the bat plane, I think. It's like enormous.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, like it's a revolver. Yeah. Yeah, long barrel. Yeah. You've got Tom Hanks in Philadelphia. Also Philadelphia's innate city hall serves as the backdrop of a lot of the courtroom stakes in that movie, which had a brilliant soundtrack from Bruce. Bruce. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I think it did. And then it's nom time. I will nom Ghostbusters for another New York City Hall. You got the climax with the Ghostbuster team. Busting makes them feel good. Busting makes them feel good. And they convince the mayor to release them to go and sort out the ghosts that are coming out of the sewers and everything and everywhere else. And they're summoned to City Hall by the Mayor, and they give their famous biblical proportions kind of speech. Yeah. And go and go and try and defeat Ghosa. Gozer the Barbarian. And uh 55 Central Park West.
SPEAKER_00Nice. I've got a special shout out to a nightclub in Berlin to which I've been twice called Bergein. I thought it was gonna be the swingers, one. That is the one. Is it? Well, you could do whatever you want, really, as long as you get in.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, it's hard to get in, isn't it?
SPEAKER_00They open on Thursday and they close on Monday. Yeah, because it's a lot of cleanup, I'd imagine. It just goes 24 hours. The first time I went, we went at two in the afternoon. There was a queue about a hundred people waiting to get in at two in the afternoon. Daylight. Yeah. Pure daylight. And then we couldn't get in, went back at six, couldn't get in, went back at ten, and we played. The queue was even longer, but my mate by that by then he kind of trained me to not look like a tourist and he his missus actually gave me a pair of leather trousers.
SPEAKER_04Eight hours of training. It gave you a leather trousers.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, honestly, black leather trousers, black top. Yeah, you've got to look at the parts of getting there, you need to look quirky or gay to get in, otherwise you're not getting it.
SPEAKER_01Just go in in a full gimp suit.
SPEAKER_00If you go in like commit to it, commit to the bit, you'll be obeyed. You'll be fine, you'll get in. And honestly, the first time I went was my mate's stagdo. Pardon me, it was a stagdo. And we we both got in, let's say at seven in the evening, and it was I think ten in the morning. You could tell us off air what went down. And we didn't know, we didn't know exactly what time it was or whatever, but we were like, if we don't leave now, we're gonna lose our souls here. It was honestly our souls or our souls?
SPEAKER_04Probably both.
SPEAKER_00Maybe both. Probably both. And and that the main room in Bergen has because there's three the separate ones, but the main room is a mass because it's a form of factory. So they just stripped everything from it, and it's just the the pillars in it. And it's a massive techno, like German techno hall room. Anyway, and that's where the where I was going with it. But my norm will be the quintessentially British Royal Albert Hall, which is features first ones first in The Man Who Knew Too Much, a 1956 production by Albert Hitchcock. It's the famous uh climatic concert sequence is filmed inside the Royal Albert. Friend of the Pod, yeah, and Rocket Man, 2019. Aaron Eggerson. Yeah, some of the f scenes connecting it to Elton John, so it's not obviously Elton John wasn't in the film, but uh Taryn was. And there they do film a film called The Ring from 1927, and Spiceworld culminates the film culminates in them singing at the Royal Albert Hall. Royal Albert Hall. Well, there you go. Okay, so that is my nom. Nice. Because I've been there and I've seen, believe it or not, Nas. Really? Yeah, it was amazing. Okay, nice. I've seen Spiritualizer and it was fucking intense. Yeah. Really good. Yeah. So that was good actually. When I was living in London, it was like a he had a Delmatic. Was it Illmat? Yeah, well it was it was more like a like a greatest hits, but obviously Ilmatic is the the one really. Prince Nas. No, and Nasser Jones is is a he's a rapper. Used to have B for Jay-Z. From Queens. Back in the long time ago, Nas. Now they're pals, so it's all all good. Got anything on this?
SPEAKER_02Uh yeah, I've got a couple of honourable mentions. The Hall of Faces from Bravos at the House of Black and White in Game of Thrones. A girl is blah blah blah. Yeah. Yeah, that that was pretty twisted. Had two memorable hallway fights in Old Boy, the remake and the original, I think, both have memorable hallway fights, and the first and second seasons of Daredevil also have pretty good.
SPEAKER_01They had the team up one of Daredevil. Yeah. They had a fight, and it might have just been in a lift.
SPEAKER_02There's been a lot of great enclosed space action sequences. And then my nomination for the greatest hallway scene of all time is a sort of cross between the end of Rogue One and the beginning of Star Wars. Most probably from where Darth Vader I I think you hate this bit, don't you? Where he walks down the hallway. Yeah, where he goes full Vader at the end of Rogue One. Oh no, yeah. Okay. So he leads straight into Star Wars. He walks down that hallway with all those guys shitting themselves.
SPEAKER_01Not so keen on the bit where he just morphs into Princess Leia. Yeah. With a clearly like PlayStation 2 level graphics reproduction, but crushing people without touching them.
SPEAKER_02It's a real demonstration of the dark side of the force, people screaming and crying, and you know, him throwing people around like toys and them running acts of heroism to get the file from one end to the other. Yeah, it's great. So that's my top five hall.
SPEAKER_01Pete and I have been really nerding out about really minutiae of detail about Game of Thrones. Okay, there's Lord of Rings recently. And Medusalid, or something like that, however you pronounce it, is the Golden Hall of Ederas. It's where they have the victory feast. Golden Hall of Ederasts. Yeah, yeah, exactly. Eight-year-olds do. A couple of song ones, Halls of Valhalla is a Judas Priest song. And then I've been listening to a lot of Led Zeppelin recently, and Immigrant Song talks a lot about the Halls of Valhalla as well. But my yeah, scum. My nom is gonna be because I'm already getting Christmas vibes. Yeah. And we actually did some Christmas shopping while we're in.
SPEAKER_02That's the one with DeVito.
SPEAKER_01Just the song, just the Christmas Carol. Just the carol. There's a movie. But yeah, there is the movie as well. A Schwartz is coming back with another Christmas movie this year. Is he really? Yeah, yeah. Okay. We actually went into Liberty. You know, Liberty in London. Yeah. We went Christmas ornament shopping in there, and then you got the four the whole top four is like already completely Christmas shopping. I know I bought my crowd.
SPEAKER_04For fuck's sake, it's still October.
SPEAKER_01Have you?
SPEAKER_04I bought my first place. Is it for you? No. But yes, I've I I've got two of 'em. Socks.
SPEAKER_01Alright. Pancits of socks. So deck the halls. And we need another haul. We need another haul from our listeners. Yeah. Let's let's have it. Let's yeah. Let's talk about this. It's called because I didn't get the gag when I read it. Are you kidding me? No. What is it called? Fakham F-A-C-K-H-A-M. Fuck em haw. Yeah. But when I was just reading it, I put it jaded, I suppose. I didn't realise that that was when you say out loud, fuck 'em all. Yeah. Yeah. And then when I did go to select it on because on Prime, and it says screenplay by Jimmy Carr, my heart's.
SPEAKER_04I I didn't read this until because I started watching it for about three minutes, and Yana looked at me and she goes, her face just said it all. And should we watch the other one then? Should we watch the firm?
SPEAKER_01Like, and as I said, I've developed a pretty strong hatred of Jimmy Carr. I know you have, yeah, yeah. So that didn't work.
SPEAKER_04I've not always hated him. It's I'm not enjoying his.
SPEAKER_02He's actually quite interesting sometimes. But his comedy is a lot of sort of edgelordy stuff, and like there's a good example of like him saying strangle wank or something. He's supposed to laugh just because of the words like strangle wank.
SPEAKER_01So I think the first one of the first visual gags you get in the film is the the you know the the Masturbatorium. I did actually quite like that.
SPEAKER_04No, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I thought that was a little bit sort of lame and I wanted to see the masturbatorium though, so I was interested. We never got to see one next.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it was just all the old sort of bells and things. And and he's obviously got his stand-up, he's did that eight out of ten cats, and he's done last one laughing or standing or whatever.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but you see all those things, he's never one who is charged with doing a spontaneous humour. No. So I don't think he's got that in his locker.
SPEAKER_04Well, he's going to see that Stuart. Stand up is going on.
SPEAKER_02He and he's actually said some really nice things about him in his book. Okay. Stuart Lee. Stuart. It was the benchmark thing, really. So it leads me to believe that he might actually just be right, and I just don't massively vibe with his humour. Although every now and then there are a funny one-line. I don't like the kind of I'm gonna say something really edgy now. I'm gonna say it. Can't believe how bad I'm gonna raise it. But then sometimes he says it like that is really funny. It actually has the funniest lines in this film, I think. Yeah, so yeah, it's complicated with James. Well he plays the victim, doesn't he? But we've got this is Downton Hall, but naked gun, basically.
SPEAKER_01Yes, it's it's going for that exactly that kind of comedy.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. I don't know whether he's written a film before, or this is his debut attempt at writing a film, but he's got Damien Lewis in it. Yeah. Who's I don't realize that many of the cast, I'd say.
SPEAKER_02And it it starts out We've got some narration and setting up the scene of the haves and the have nots, the way to what are they called?
SPEAKER_04They're difficult to go through this film because it's just important. It's got lots of different gags in and some hit home, but it's got a million gags.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, like like you know, naked guard, there's uh you couldn't describe it.
SPEAKER_04Did you get any chuckles out of this?
SPEAKER_01Ironically, after like saying I don't like Jimmy Cart, I I thought he was the funniest thing in this, 'cause he only has two scenes where he and and this this gag is done like really well in in Black Add Goes Forth, where they get the punctuation wrong in a sentence. Yeah. And he keeps doing it. So he's he's He's he's a Vicar who's dressed. And he's just saying like really, really like inappropriate stuff, but when he then punctuates it properly, you get what you know he's should have said, and it is quite funny. And I did actually laugh at that.
SPEAKER_02And he's got Hitler's moustache and hair as well, which is also quite good. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and and I can't remember the jokes that I laughed at through this film, but I did have a couple of times then I didn't know.
SPEAKER_03There were a few jokes I laughed at.
SPEAKER_02I the bit where we shot him and then he died, that was making it.
SPEAKER_01Another one that's been done in Black Add before. Yeah. So they the the the I can't guess the sort of overarching premise of the film is they're trying to marry off the kids. There's two daughters, isn't there?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Rose is the eldest one at twenty three, she's past it, absolutely past it. We're in the eighteen hundreds here. To Mary, her cousin. There are no male heirs anymore because John, Paul, George, and Ringo died in a series of free guns.
SPEAKER_01And we see this guy, we do see the guy getting dropped off at the orphanage and growing up in the orphanage. What's it called? No home, no one. Eric no one. Yeah. By noon, but it's no one. Yeah. And then he ends up he's sort of pickpocket as well, but he ends up coming to work in the house.
SPEAKER_02He gets He's sent to deliver a letter by a benefactor. He shows him where Fackham Hall is on a map, it's near Ricky Lake. And uh somewhere else, another gag that I quite enjoyed. So he's sent off there, and before he can even say that he's there to deliver the letter, he finds out there's a job going, he's like, oh, four pounds a week, sound, I'll take that, and he goes off the be part of the staff.
SPEAKER_04And he has actually literally bumped into Rose on the way there. The Rose there, she kind of sunset cycling along, and his bike's completely fucked, and he's mangled on the scene. He's oh yeah, I'm brilliant, my lady. Yeah, I felt fine with him.
SPEAKER_02I think he's quite good, actually, of the leads.
SPEAKER_04He's got a good run in like charming and stupid, which is quite a hard line to And they have these various sci kind of get-togethers in the grand halls and the in the grand ballrooms and everything of of the house where different people and characters you're introduced and they're all as daft as each other, really. Everyone's marrying their cousins too. Well, yeah, that's it.
SPEAKER_01So there's there's a there's a wedding. It's Poppy, isn't it? Is the the other daughter, and she's there to marry her cousin, which is Draco Malfoy. Yeah. We saw him in Message from the King a few weeks ago.
SPEAKER_02A very game Tom Felton who has to really make himself look stupid in this.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and she actually jilts him and says, The yeah, the the uh the the vicar whoever says, Is there anyone here who knows of any reason? She's like, Yeah, me, I don't want to do it, I don't I don't love you. She busts, she runs over with basically Jeremy Clarkson, like this old farmer dude.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, he delivers manure through your letterbox and she like runs out to him, he's like covered in shit and hairy and old, and like she grabs the the horse car and just runs off.
SPEAKER_04Well running past this kind of Adonis figure, yeah, yeah, yeah. Who's there that you originally think that's who she must be running towards and it's not.
SPEAKER_02And J.R.R. Tolkien, the writer, is there as well. I I enjoyed that joke too.
SPEAKER_01So So then the basically th they are meant to be super wealthy, but if they can't find someone to marry off, they're gonna have to give up the estate.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah, it's not it's gonna lose their from their immediate family, it's gonna go on to their second cousin, he will be the right flare, and then they'll have to ask permission for him to live in this 50-bedroom house, and they'll they'll just decide this just simply as a room or something.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, they're so there's no there's no debate, Rose has to marry Archie. Yeah. But meanwhile, Eric has kind of they've had a little bit of free song, actually, he's got a massive erection as he's been talking to her, and then he's like been fired and then rehired because of her flirting together. It's clear there's love in the air. Yeah, yeah, they've they've got an attraction there. It there's some scenes, I think we already talked about like the all the shooting and stuff. I think the plot kind of kicks off really towards the end as There's a murder. There's a murder, exactly. They discover the body of Damian Lewis's character, the patriarchal Davenport, who's been poisoned. But first you just see he's got a knife.
SPEAKER_01He's got a knife sticking out of his chest, then he's actually also been shot and poisoned and had acid on him and all sorts, as we find out.
SPEAKER_02And that is because the one of the staff members, I forget her name, has had a clandestine affair with him. Yeah. That's that's right, yeah.
SPEAKER_04And Anna Maxwell Martin.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you'd recognise her. The blame's thrown on Eric and Rose, who were out actually at the pub proving that they were Cockneys by saying Oh, it's a cockney knees up. And Eric throws himself on the grenade of this stuff so as she wouldn't be embarrassed and says that it was him and That's right.
SPEAKER_04So he he he's uh he's arrested and he won't say that he's with her because that would disgrace her. In prison, he realizes he meets John Thompson. I did enjoy this.
SPEAKER_02It's another old gag where they see a spoon and they want to tunnel out, and there's a spoon.
SPEAKER_03He uses a pickaxe, he uses a pickaxe to get it. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I really like John Thompson as well. I did read he had uh there was an article about him in The Guardian recently. Yeah. And how he's just so frequently out of work, you just can't. Really? I thought he was very funny in this. I thought he was one of the funniest guys. Him and Simon Day were the two I well, Paul Whites is great as well, but in the far show, their characters were the ones that I found most consistently funny. Yeah. They did a show, I think I've talked about it before, called No County for Old Men on the History Channel. It was brilliant, but you'll never see it repeated because they because John Thompson just constantly doing Jimmy Savile impressions. Oh brilliant. Can't show it anymore. Brilliant. But he's I think he's fucking really funny and he just said he can't get work.
SPEAKER_02So they break out of prison because Nathaniel has also decided to open the oh, Eric has decided to open the letter and he found out that he's actually the long-lost cousin of one of the Beatles. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Because you know what this means. You had sex with your cousin.
SPEAKER_02But then he can go back and interrupt the wedding where Rose is about to be married off to Malfoy.
SPEAKER_04Not before getting a full confession of how the Mrs. McAllister, the housekeeper, confess to the whole murder where she accidentally stabbed, shot poisoning and strangled your loving.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And he's like, you can get it out by like shoot it out. So she shoots him four times. I'll get some acid to take the bullets out of someone.
SPEAKER_02And he's like, hey on, I just need a drink before you do that.
SPEAKER_01And he reaches for some poison.
SPEAKER_04And yeah, so it it looks bad against her. The the policeman and a kind of incl you know Inspector Cluseau hangs his moustache up on the he's listening to everything and arrests Miss McAllister. And the wedding could go on anyway. The wedding goes on and he she doesn't have to marry Archibald, her cousin.
SPEAKER_01Did you get what John Thompson's character's name was was? What was it? Bill Bo Baggins. Yeah. Tolkien Bo Baggins.
SPEAKER_04And Tolkien's like, hmm. And another thing goes, Oh, he doesn't write down my precious, does he? He's like, he's he's come so close or my whatever it is. And that's it, really. I mean, the the film goes as as you put it, Reeds, it's Downton Abbey meets naked gun. I'm sure that's how he actually sold it.
SPEAKER_02A hundred percent. Yeah, but it's got all of the traditional like it's got everything from the sort of like, how did you sleep? Oh, by you know, lying down and closing my eyes, that kind of gag to the the sight gags of somebody choking in the background and falling over. All we do is care about Papa. We can't wait and he's like yeah, dying in the background. But I do kind of like a spoof movie. I mean, this was I the thing is it's that what's often important is that you know the things that are being spoofed, and that's where I don't watch period dramas at all. I don't Bridgerton, Downtown Abbey, I don't know one from the other, to be honest. So it kind of if it probably if you like those things, you might even get slightly more out of this. It probably had enough jokes to keep me entertained slightly. Sure, it's an hour and a half.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I was thinking then the the new Naked Gun one with Led Lesnar. That was better. I thought about that as well.
SPEAKER_01I think Naked Gun was better, but that's a pretty high bar anyway, so Yeah, but I would say if you like those films, like watch them, because this isn't as good. No. But talking about it was quite fun. And there are the enough gags in there that I was I didn't turn it off because then when I was like, I don't know if I'd be able to watch this, yeah. But I've been away in that very long, so it was like two and a half hour movie, I'm probably not gonna make that, or an hour and a half movie, and this was sound for that.
SPEAKER_04Yana had no no patience for this whatsoever. I mean, she was out, she hates this stuff, like you know, these these kind of movies. It's just like I mean it is silly, that's the whole point. Silly and uh just not into it visually like the the play on words will go over a head a lot of the times, just different language doesn't kind of understand it all. But I I say I chuckled a few times, it wasn't as bad as I feared. Yeah, I'd agree with that. I'd agree with that.
SPEAKER_01It was better that I did go into it with like a feeling of doom and dread.
SPEAKER_02I was gonna say, I when Jimmy Carr's name popped up, I was like, oh and then so yeah, it had a bit to be.
SPEAKER_04I didn't actually know it was Jimmy Carr until the the second time I turned it on, and my heart sunk a little bit because I knew that you didn't like having Jimmy Carr, but I thought okay, British guy, maybe this is the first film that he's ever written, and that's completely different to doing anything else. It's let's see how he does.
SPEAKER_02And it let's say it was I could imagine somebody really liking this film, like hitting it at the right point of time.
SPEAKER_04He's got a lot of good people doing it as well. It makes you think, as you said at the start, maybe you know, from that you think, well, other people actually want to be part of his film. And I really like Damian Lewis.
SPEAKER_02I thought everybody was very like they played it nicely straight where they had to play it straight, and you know, nobody was phoning it in, they were all giving it.
SPEAKER_04He might get you know, I don't know what other kind of film he would do other than just this kind of Jimmy Carr. Jimmy Carr, then all these gags and everything. Like Ricky Gervais, you think of Ricky Gervais, he's done a couple of films, he's written, you know, series and things that have got actually been really quite sweet and and thought-provoking. I don't know if you've seen any of his stuff or enjoyed it. I'm sure you've seen it. Um but he did what was the life one? After life. Afterlife. And you think, oh no, this it was you know, there was a bit deeper than just then obviously this gags a minute and everything. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01This was filmed at a place called Nosley Hall. Noseley Hall. Near Liverpool.
SPEAKER_04And maybe the jokes were a bit on the nose.
SPEAKER_01D Oh, enough nose gags. David Arnold, best known for you know, James Bond scores and stuff like that. It was hard to compose two original songs out of the score.
SPEAKER_02I'm not surprised by that actually, because production-wise, this made the most of its budget. It looked pretty good, costumes were great, you know, camera replacement was nice, it's a well-made film. Particularly I like the action sequence that towards the end as he's running and he has to go over the mattress place and there's some good stuff going on there.
SPEAKER_01Jimmy Carr's character dies because it gives you like the what's happened to them later in life. He died in a bunker in Berlin in 1945, isn't it? That was quite funny. It was more of a recommend than I thought it was going to be. There we go.
SPEAKER_04High praise. High praise, I would say. Yeah, I would say this was a a medium to strong recommend. More on the medium. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Chris didn't watch it. I didn't watch it, so I can't say anything. It sounds like a terrible thing to me though. I don't think it would be your part. Yeah. Especially because I don't understand the humor, and it's a there's a things like that where where I I'm not accustomed to that kind of humor. I don't really understand it. I understand English, but I don't really understand that. And some some people might hit home, like you said, and it might be but it's if w from what I heard from you guys, that's just not something I would enjoy watching.
SPEAKER_04Better off watching Naked Gun or Naked Guys Playing or Naked Guys. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Sai, did you enjoy it?
SPEAKER_02Probably more than I thought I was going to, to be honest, when I sort of realised what it was and what it was about. And a lot of it was like adding up to oh god to me, but actually it sort of won me over as it went on because there were enough things that I was like chuckling to that were happening that I thought, yeah, okay, it's alright. I mean, it's not I'm not gonna rush out and tell everyone to see it, but if you needed a parody film to cheer you up, this is the same.
SPEAKER_00Both of the leads are good looking as well.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00They were. So that's always a bonus, right? Yeah. Yeah. But no bonus. No bonus.
SPEAKER_02Well, there was one actually.
SPEAKER_01But you didn't see it. No. Sounds strong. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Well, half a point off for not seeing the erection, and then I guess. Yeah, I guess, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Well, we're over 100,000 downloads, so here's to the next million. Here's to the next hundred. To the next month, billion. Dan, you may or may not be around next Monday because you've got a family event. I do, yeah. So you may.
SPEAKER_02It's the man cave. Are we what are we doing now?
SPEAKER_01Dan might be here. Might not. Oh, right.
SPEAKER_02Schrdinger's craven. That's it.
SPEAKER_01You write it down. And I'm definitely not here the week after that. Wow. So I wonder if we do a load of midweekers next week. We could do something like that, yeah. So then we can just all shout at each other for the week.
SPEAKER_04I wonder if anyone listening to this has a midweeker they could recommend for us. Chuck it on Discord.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. All that remains is to say sidey's signing out. Reeds has left the building. Dan's gone.
