Midweek Mention... Airplane!

After a few hectic and just outright stressful weeks, the Dads thought a good comedy movie would be a good pick-me-up. We made our way to the Man Cave to watch Airplane! Sadly on our arrival at the venue it was discovered to be lacking in the cable department. We had to slum it, and watch this on the small screen! Dan your mission for next film night is to sort out the projector (and all associated cables).

Midweek Mention... Cloud Atlas

Tom Twyker and the Wachowskis serve up what is surely one of the most ambitious films ever made with 2012's Cloud Atlas. Adapted from David Mitchell's supposedly unfilmable novel, Cloud Atlas follows characters inspired across time by acts of artistic expression in six short stories sharing an incredible cast including one of Sidey's least favourite actors, Tom Hanks, and one of his very favourite, Hugh Grant. With plenty of plot and thematic content to address in this epic 170 minute movie, th...

Midweek Mention... They Live

Well bugger me it's episode 100! We asked you dear listener to tell us what to review. After a long, tense and probably fraudulent twitter vote, They Live emerged triumphantly as our winning movie. So we discussed at length the movie, it's themes and the styling and upkeep of Roddy Peppers mullet. It really was breathtaking. So tune in, enjoy and stick around for the next 100 episodes! Thanks for listening!

Midweek Mention... Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Two Harry Potter movie fans sit down to discuss the third instalment in the franchise with a self-confessed Potter hater and someone who didn’t even bother to watch the film. J.K. Rowling's fantasy novel series for younger readers garnered huge success in its own right before it was adapted for the big screen in 2001 with the release of the first cinematic instalment, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. The third highest-grossing film series of all time with an estimated worldwide box off...

Midweek Mention... Muriel's Wedding

I've avoided this movie like the goddam plague. But, Dan has asked us to talk about it for your listening pleasure so I stuck it on one evening. Turns out you can be wrong about a movie from time to time, because we found a movie that we all seemed to get on with!

Midweek Mention... Bloodsport

Well we haven't ever covered a kung fu movie. This seems like as good a time as ever. We watched Bloodsport. There's lots to love about this movie. It's a true story, JCVD does the splits a lot. The child actors are fantastic. And mainly the fighting is really cool! Have we found a movie that we all agree on?

Midweek Mention... Howard the Duck

Our Midweek Mention begins our week long delve into the world of Marvel movies. Egged on by Sidey's unrelenting claims that Howard the Duck is the best Marvel movie, Reegs picked this classic tale of girl meets duck. There are many strange moments in this PG rated film. They include but are not limited to: duck wanking, potential rape, Dark Overlord transmogrification and flying a microlite. To summarise, this movie is fucking rad.

Midweek Mention... Smokey and the Bandit

"We've got a long way to go and a short time to get there. I'm east bound, just watch ol' "Bandit" run." You must remember this one, surely? The whole movie is essentially a car chase from start to finish. It's 1977 and The Bandit (Burt Reynolds) accepts a bet from Big Enos Burdette and his son Little Enos who say he can't go to Texarkana, Texas and back to Atlanta, Georgia in a big rig with 400 smuggled cases of some of America's worst beer, Coors, in under 28 hours. Reynold's is 70's coolness...

Midweek Mention... Mortal Kombat

If you're not familiar with the rules of Mortal Kombat, allow me to explain it to you. It's a form of kombat (or martial arts kompetition) between fighters from different realms. For some reason our realm - including Earth which is a place I've become very attached to over the years - is on the brink of losing 10 konfrontations in a row which would be very bad so a team of kombatatants assemble themselves to kome to blows with their kompetitors, which include cyborgs, ninja's with freeze attacks...

Midweek Mention...Mean Girls

Imagine you've been asked to think of the most appropriate film for a group of 40 something dads. Did you think of Mean Girls? Probably not, and yet here we are. Reegs was very keen that we all watched this one, so grab some snacks and the beverage of your choice and lets see what fascinating insights are in store in our Midweek Movie Mention.... Next week we have a listener suggestion submitted on Twitter. Feel free to suggest any movies you feel would benefit from our critical reappraisal. W...

Midweek Mention...Dragnet

A dragnet is any system of coordinated measures for apprehending criminals or suspects; including road barricades and traffic stops, widespread DNA tests, and general increased police alertness. Since the 1950s, such "dragnets" have generally been held to be unconstitutional as unreasonable search and seizure actions. It's also the name of a 1987 buddy cop movie starring Dan Aykroyd, Tom Hanks and the late great Christopher Plummer. We're talking about the latter this week.

Midweek Mention... Uncle Buck

Join the Dads as they take a trip back to 1989. Its yet another seminal 80s "classic" comedy that Sidey never bothered to see. What's his take on, not only the movie, but the work of its star, Mr John Candy? Join the debate online on twitter @dadsfilm, or stop by our website baddafsfilm.com That's all for now, until next time, we remain... Bad Dads

Midweek Mention... Twins

Bacon and eggs, peaches and cream, bread and butter, gimp masks and Howie. Some things are just better together. For that very reason we re-watched the 1988 Arnie comedy classic Twins. Sidey was popping his cherry with this one, so his take on the movie will be nostalgia free. Hands up who wants us to complete the Arnie & Ivan Reitman trilogy? Just say the word! We're desperate for human contact! So come join us on Twitter - @dads_film - on Facebook or via email to baddadsjsy@gmail.com. Unti...

Midweek Mention... Junior

In a single decade between 1984 and 1994 Arnold Schwarzenegger had a run of box office success that is hard to compete with. Starring in, amongst others, The Terminator (1984), Commando (1985), Predator (1987), The Running Man (1987), Twins (1988), Total Recall (1990) Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991), Last Action Hero (1993) and True Lies (1994), the Austrian oak typically graced our screens as a lantern jawed behemoth who repeatedly saves the world. He also starred in 1994's deeply disturbin...

Midweek Mention... Moneyball

Sidey's former life as a data analyst is probably one of the reasons why he loves this movie about baseball. Is there any other reason? On paper a film about a sport he doesn't understand, based on granular baseball data analysis doesn't sound like something we'd line up to see. But here we are, five or six viewings to the good. What other factors have made this such a repeat viewing favourite? The Bad Dads convened a (virtual) get together to find out why this is such a hit! Also, stay tuned ...

Midweek Mention... The Bourne Identity

With our finger firmly on the pulse we take a trip back to 2002 for The Bourne Identity. The movie is great. We love it so much that we veer off topic and discuss watches. Tune in to find out which brand of watch our noted horology fan Reegs doesn't approve of. Listen on in shock and awe as Sidey muses over his next potential watch purchase! There is also some discussion about the film, it's effect on the action movie genre and the behind the scene kerfuffles during its production. We love in...

Midweek Mention.... Grosse Pointe Blank

Time to squeeze in one final episode for 2020. This midweek mention is all about Sidey waxing lyrical about one of his favourite movies, Grosse Pointe Blank. This movie was released just after Sidey finished school. He often wonders how different his life would have been if he'd chosen the same career path as John Cusack in this movie... So tune and and remind yourself why this is such a great movie. Or of you've not seen it yet, please go watch it, then listen to us chat about it! We love in...

Midweek Mention.... Gremlins 2: The New Batch

Well we loved the first Gremlins movie, so we thought why not?! Three quarters of us revisited this one just recently. Dan couldn't be bothered, instead he was moonlighting on another podcast! We took him on a trip down memory lane to convince him this was worth another look. Find out all the reasons why this is a stone cold classic. Midweek Mention... Scrooged

Nobody loves a Christmas movie more than the Bad Dads. In fact we've gone Christmas crazy this week. First up for your listening pleasure we have our belated review of the Bill Murray Xmas classic, Scrooged. Roger Ebert said this was the worst film adaptation of A Christmas Carol he had ever seen. Was he off the mark with that description? You'll have to listen to us witter on to find out... Midweek Mention...The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!

Time to go over an 80's classic, The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! We loved this years ago, but have the years been kind to it? Is the humour dated or does it still make us laugh? I know what you're thinking? Are these guys seriously going to review this old nonsense? Well, I am serious and don't call me Shirley!! Midweek Mention... His House

The Bad Dads are not universally sold on the horror genre. That is to say 75% of us won't watch them! This week Reegs makes the case for the highly rated His House. What are the chances of him actually managing to make the others man up. Not great you have to say! Midweek Mention... Total Recall Vs Total Recall

Have you ever wondered which is the superior version of the movie Total Recall? Perhaps you find Arnold Schwarzenegger's performance in the 1990 version too understated. Maybe you felt that taking all the mutants and Mars setting gave the 2012 version a more grounded and realistic appeal... I think we all know which is the better move, but why not listen in to find out what we thought?! We love interacting with our listeners, so please get in touch with us - @dads_film, on Facebook or via emai...

Midweek Mention... Baywatch

Never let it be said that we exist solely to review high brow cinematic offerings! This midweek mention is all about 2017's Baywatch. Now there's a masterpiece if ever we've seen one. Turns out Dan hasn't seen this one. Reegs, Howie and Sidey give it the hard sell, but could we convince Dan to give it a whirl? Tune in to find out. Until next time, we remain... Bad Dads
